Model sources and routes
A model source answers where credentials and inference capability live. A route answers which source and model an agent slot currently selects. These are separate concepts.
Choose a model source
| Approach | Meaning |
|---|---|
| OriginRouter Cloud | Select from account-available models after sign-in |
| Native agent configuration | Keep the existing Claude Code or Codex login, model, and environment |
| Local provider | The CLI stores provider configuration and routes through the managed proxy |
| Remote provider | Use models shared by another trusted device through Remote Share |
The recommended order is to use Cloud for the first working workflow, then choose native configuration, a local provider, or a remote provider according to credential ownership and deployment requirements. Native configuration does not create an OriginRouter route; Cloud, local providers, and remote providers are assigned through managed Agent slots.
Agent slots
- Claude Code uses
mainandsmall. - Codex uses
main.
In managed routing mode, every slot must resolve to one explicit source and one usable model. Native configuration bypasses OriginRouter routes and keeps the Agent's own login, model, and environment.
Claude's small slot falls back to main when it is not configured; main and small must use the same provider. Codex has only main; it does not use small or fall back across Agents.
Remote Agents and Remote Share
These capabilities are related but different:
- Remote Agent runs the Agent on another trusted CLI device. Its workspace and commands stay on that device.
- Remote Share exposes only enabled, remotely allowed provider models from another device. It does not move a workspace or share provider credentials.
Enablement and remote sharing
A local provider model normally has separate local-enabled and remote-allowed states. Remote Share exposes only models whose provider is selected, model is enabled, and remote use is allowed. Provider credentials are not given to the remote device.
